This building dates to 1342. These houses form part of the former refectory of Romsey Abbey. The lap joints were also metioned by Cecil Hewett in his book "English Historic Carpentry" (1980 page 89). He suggests a date of c.1230 for the first phase, unfortunately this phase was unable to date using dendrochronology, unlike the the second phase of 1342. Typologically, the lap joints dated by Hewett sit well with the Hampshire evidence of other buildings that have been dendro-dated.
